Sarah Moshman is an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and TEDx speaker

Since she was a teenager, Sarah has been madly in love with the camera, and believes it is the greatest tool at her disposal to make sense of the world and reflect our experiences back to audiences worldwide. 

Her work has been featured on various platforms, including Upworthy, Marie Claire, PBS, Hulu, CNN, Netflix, and Good Morning America.

Experience and Collaborations

Prior to her focus on documentaries, Sarah worked as a field producer on popular TV shows like "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC) and various programs on NBC, MTV, Lifetime, Bravo, and the Food Network.

She also engages in story producing for premium doc series on networks like A&E, HBO, and Showtime.

Sarah directs branded content for various brands, including EllenTube, Tastemade, Mattel, AT&T, Samsung, Stayfree, SPANX, and more.

Passions and Inspirations

In addition to her filmmaking career, Sarah is an inspiring public speaker, author, and adjunct professor in documentary film, dedicated to empowering the next generation of storytellers.

She is passionate about telling stories that uplift, inform, and inspire, particularly showcasing strong female role models on screen and the complexity of motherhood.

Sarah is based in Los Angeles and is a mother to a 6-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.

Narrative Shorts:

  • A Mother is Born: a short fiction film Sarah also wrote about the profound identity shift that comes with early motherhood.

  • UNBOUND: An award-winning short fiction film about the first mother to go to space. Won First Place at NASA's CineSpace Global Short Film Competition and screened on the International Space Station.

Feature Docs:

  • Losing Sight of Shore: Follows the incredible journey of four women who rowed across the Pacific Ocean. Released globally on Netflix in May 2017.

  • The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things: 5 female filmmakers set off across America to interview inspirational women from all different career fields. Screened over 1000 times worldwide, streamed on Hulu, sponsored by brands Nordstrom, American Girl, Microsoft sparking conversations worldwide about gender equality.

  • NEVERTHELESS: A feature documentary that sheds light on the sexual harassment crisis and the #MeToo movement, using cinema as a catalyst for change.

Short Docs:

  • MY NAME IS SIRI: In the San Francisco Bay Area, the Chettipally family has been quietly raising 3 children for the past 30 years. One of their children is the incredibly special Siri, who was diagnosed with non-verbal autism at age 3. Against all odds, Siri bravely fought through many hurdles to communicate like never before. 

  • Growing up Strong: Girls on the Run: highlighting Chicago's Girls on the Run program for middle school girls. The after school program focuses on building self-esteem and communication skills in young girls. WINNER - NATAS Chicago Midwest Chapter Emmy Award in the Human Interest Category 2013.

  • Girls Rock! Chicago: Young girls learn guitar, bass, and drums, write their own songs and perform like rockstars at the end of a week's time while building confidence along the way.
